Sylvan H “Sib” Morley
2011 Cassia County Fair & Rodeo
Parade Grand Marshal

2011 Cassia County Fair Parade Marshall, Sib Morley is 93 yrs. old. Sib is well known in the community for his pharmacy called "SIB's Pharmacy". With his wife Melba, he owned and operated the pharmacy for 40 years. He was considered a professional among the doctors and hospitals in the community by his virtue. He served as the Pharmacist for the Cassia & Rupert Hospitals for as long as he had his store. Sib was a member of the Businessmen's Association and an active member of the Burley Chapter of Kiwanis. Sib and Melba’s passion was raising and breeding Arabian Horses. This hobby that they loved grew to a herd of 40 horses at one time. Being a member of the “Cavaliers” horse riding group and various other mountain trail riding groups allowed Sib and his wife Melba, to enjoy their horses while also getting to know the local hills and mountain trails that our area has to offer. The Morley’s were also members of the Arabian Horse Association for many years and participated in many horse shows and events within the organization. Generally at fair time, you could count on the Morley’s to donate a horse to the Cassia County Fair and 4-H for their annual 4-H raffle. They served as 4-H leaders and helped with various 4-H clubs through the many years their children were in 4-H. It wasn’t uncommon to find the Morley's represented in a booth in the Commercial Building as well. Sib served as a judge in the animal division of the Cassia County Parade for many years. He always looked forward to doing his part to serve the community.

Sib was very involved in his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as a bishop of the Burley 5th Ward for 9 years in the late 50's early 60's, as well as all other capacities. He served 2 missions with his sweetheart, one to Puerto Rico (1985) and the second in Spain (1987), as well as several years in the Boise, Idaho Temple, only to return to Burley to work his drug store and raise his horses. After retiring from the drug store, Sib substitute taught Spanish in the Cassia County Junior and High Schools, until he was well into his eighties. He was very fluent in Spanish his entire life which was an asset in his business as well as his missions.

Sib & Melba developed Sylvan Acres in the late 1970's. This was their hayfield and farm for many years and they had a vision to develop it into the wonderful neighborhood that it is today. It was named after him "Sylvan Circle". Sylvan Howard Morley is his given name but he goes by "SIB", a nickname that has stuck with him since his childhood. Together, Sib and his wife Melba raised 6 children, Howard Morley of Middleton, ID; Ric Morley of Taylorsville, UT; Terri Clark of Delta, CO; Tim Morley of South Jordan, UT; Tony Morley and Tammi Pollard of Burley, ID. The Morley kids were raised to know the value of hard work and have enjoyed the lessons that were taught through the example of their parents. Sib’s wife Melba passed away in 2007 as a result of Alzheimer’s. He remained in his home on Sylvan Circle until August of 2010 at which time he moved into his son Tony’s home, who also resides in Sylvan Circle. He has enjoyed mowing lawns and working outside until just recently, and his health has not permitted him to do so. At 93 yrs. old, he has been a stalwart in our community and continues to enjoy this wonderful community that he calls home.
